Why all the Hate?

Has the Internet made the world an uglier place? Or has it just made the hatred more obvious? Although I could use the websites that MC and I run or the unwarranted hatred for Donald Trump AND HIS FAMILY as examples, I’ll turn instead to something else.

Lately, Marvel has been getting a LOT of disrespect for its product: Thor 4, The Eternals, Secret Invasion, Quantumania, She Hulk, and The Marvels were all having nasty comments made about them even before they had finished production. Shows were review bombed before they were even shown.

To be sure, some complaints – like poor CGI effects – are valid.  But people trashing films because they don’t like a particular actor (or something they said) and want to virtue signal for all to see is unwarranted. It’s cancel culture. The absolute glee these whiny losers who have no life beyond the keyboard have when the gloat over problems for the MCU are – to me, anyway – sickening.

I’m old enough to remember when STAR WARS came out. The critics hated it. And, to be truthful, my own first viewing made me feel like it dragged. But on my second viewing – with a different date – I was amazed at how it seemed to fly by. And we all know what happened there.

My point is that although I didn’t like some aspects of a film, I didn’t let that color my feelings for the film at as a whole. Many vocal whiners do the exact opposite: Don’t like Brie Larson? Trash Captain Marvel, sight unseen. Don't like Phastos being a quiet gay, Sprite and Ajak being gender swapped, ir  She Hulk is comedic (like her 4th-wall breaking antics in the comics themselves) rather than action?  Trash it. Et Cetera, et cetera, ad infinitum.

Haters of every stripe are usually the social bottom layer of society (or have other problems that limit their place in the world at large.) Using the Internet to broadcast their complaints is nothing new, as the tactic is at least as old as the printing press. We should just ignore them? Although difficult to do with persistent sky screamers, we should do just that. The cruelest thing you can do to these narcissists is ignore them. Without recognition, they (usually) fade back into the morass they came from.  On the other hand, as long as they have an audience, they will continue their antics.

And those who commit criminal acts should be arrested, tried and sentenced.
