The concept and implementation of "Real ID" has been controversial from the start.
You alrady need a photo ID issued by the government to board a plane, and you have to survive the clown show known as the TSA before you can even get to the plane, so why the new ID?
Likewise, you'll need it to get ino a government building -- ANY Government building. Why?
How is a kid, getting his SSN for the first time, supposed to get into the federal offices? Oh. Well, um... I'm sure that will be taken care of...
Here is my considered opinon, based on several years of observation:
REAL ID is a code word for the creation of two-tiered access to our government. Those who have access to a REAL ID and those that refuse to have their lives put under a microscope to exercise their constutional right of access to their goverment.
REAL ID is another term for "travel papers." Soon you'll need one just to fly WITHIN the USA! Fact, not fiction.
How soon will it become required to have a REAL ID to cross state lines?
"Why aren't all these illegal immigrants required to have a REAL ID?
REAL ID isn't about safety, it's about controlling the people.
